Philip Clissett – English Chair Maker

In searching the web the other day, I found a great website about a historically important Chair Maker – Philip Clissett, who taught designer and architect Ernest Gimson to make chairs using a pole lathe.  There are some interesting photos around of Gimson’s lathe when he was working in the same workshop as Sidney Barnsley in the Cotswolds (they were Arts and Crafts Furniture makers / designers, and had met I believe William Morris).

Do take a look at the as it contains lots of useful information about Philip Clissett and the work that he did.
